Chicken Barbecue During Street Outreach
In My Father’s Kitchen
Every Morning on the days of street outreach I start to think about the Menu for the day. Today I thought about doing Barbecued Chicken Thighs sided with a Cold Pasta Salad. These mornings remind me of my days running my Family restaurant and how we would plan lunch specials for our customers that day. The difference now is that these lunches dont just bring satisfaction to someones belly these lunches bring opportunity for change in someones life. How, by creating an opportunity for dialogue to take place to be able to hear the story behind the cardboard sign. Today when we approached our friend Christian and told him that I just made fresh Barbecue Chicken today he was blown away. He started to share with me that he was a Chef for 14 years when he was living in Binghamton and he proceeded to rattle off all the places he worked. I told him that we had many connections in the food arena and if he was ready to break away from his addiction seek help and stay sober that I could make arrangements for him to work again. He was so excited and was so appreciative so next week we will be starting the journey of discussion of how this plan can become a reality. When I woke up this morning I had no idea that Barbecue Chicken would create a scenario for this discussion to take place. I didnt know but my Spiritual side knows that there is a greater force on the move and if we would just be willing to use our talents for others that many doors can and will be opened for those in need. Thank you everyone for your continued financial support of IMFK
